Compusense

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I create my own questionnaires?

Yes, Compusense five is self-authoring software. You can easily create sensory questionnaires, present them to your panelists, according to an experimental design plan and analyze or export the data. You can also create more comprehensive questionnaires based on your panelist’s response to a previous question.

What hardware do I need to run Compusense® five?

Compusense five runs on a LAN (Local Area Network). Some users operate Compusense five in a terminal services environment. The software is installed on a server that is networked to one or more computers that function as analyst and panelist stations. The analyst station is where users create tests, run them to the panel, collect results and analyze results. Data is collected at the panelist stations. See system requirements.

Can I easily import my panelist information into Compusense five?

Absolutely! Simply load an excel spreadsheet of your panelist database into Compusense five. From here, you’ll be able to link projects to a database, import panelists from a database into your project and monitor your panelist’s attendance. You can even create an attendance report that tracks the total number of tests each panelist has completed.

Explore other options that allow you to define your search: set a date range, search for specific panelists and include projects associated with one or more analysts. You can also create and use other databases for your products and blinding codes. These excellent tools help save time and reduce human error.

Our sensory department uses trained descriptive panels. How can Compusense five benefit us?

It’s easy to create the test you want with Compusense five. Customize the questionnaire to suit your descriptive testing requirements. Create multiple sessions which allows you to easily collect replicate data. Not to mention, Compusense five’s easy-to-read training reports make quick work of monitoring your panel’s performance. Reports you can choose from include panelist result summary; Compusense FCM® (Feedback Calibration Method) reports; calibration graphs and panelist attendance reports. Learn more.

How will Compusense FCM® benefit my panel?

FCM is a powerful tool for training an optimum sensory descriptive analysis panel. The technique is based upon original research conducted by Compusense. It uses the application of immediate feedback as a tool to reinforce learning and to provide calibration during the sensory task. As panelists complete a line scale screen, they will be able to compare their scores to feedback that highlights the acceptable ranges for those attributes. Panelists can also review prior scores to remind them how they rated previous samples.

I need to run my tests over multiple days to collect my data. Can Compusense five do this?

Compusense five can collect data over many days. You can easily stop, take a break and resume a test. Or even partially present a test to your panel over multiple days. Compusense five also gives you the ability to create multiple sessions and run “replicates” for your trained descriptive panel.

Can I evaluate panelist performance after the test is completed?

Yes, Compusense five provides detailed training reports. The reports include frequency counts, which indicate how often the target was hit by the individual as well as the panel, distance from target measurements and compares individual scores to the panel mean and standard deviation. You’ll have the ability to review a panelist’s improvement over a period of time or evaluate how accurate a panelist is over repeated tests.

What types of question analysis are included in Compusense five?

Compusense five provides analysis for each question type we offer. That includes mean, standard deviation and cross tabulations as well as analysis of variance and multiple comparison tests. Chi squared and binomial analysis is run for preference difference questions. Ranking questions are analyzed by Friedman’s Analysis. Compusense five can also export data in various formats (e.g. *.CSV, *.SAS, and *.DAT), depending on your preference.

What kinds of results analysis will I receive?

Compusense five provides reporting that quickly summarizes your data into organized reports. You can choose from various report options including analysis, list, summary, project description, LSD summary and training reports. Use the graphs menu to create graphs of the means or cross tabulations of selected questions. If you used FCM® for panelist training, a calibration graph is also available. Need to print your reports? Quickly scan the results with draft print mode. You can also edit the reports by printing them out in Microsoft Word.

How can we collect demographic data in Compusense five?

Compusense five offers a simple solution to collecting both sample related data and demographic or non-sample related data in the same test. Keypad, multiple choice, concept ranking, standard descriptor (choose all that apply), and comment questions can be used to collect non-sample related data. You can serve up the demographic questions either before or after all the samples are presented to your panelist.
